Sexing[edit]

Males have claspers near the pelic fins and females have a clocoa.

Tank compatibility[edit]

Species tanks are best, but they can be kept with anything that will not fit in its mouth otherwise it will try to eat it. They are not compatible with corals of any sort.

Diet[edit]

These carnivores will eat small fish or crustaceans.

Feeding regime[edit]

Daily feedings should be kept at the same time and monitored in case the fish does not eat should it be sick.

Environment specifics[edit]

Should not be kept with coral or anything that can fit in its mouth. It needs a large tank to swim in and should not have a coarse substrate as it can easily scratch its tender belly and it can become infected. It should never be exposed to copper-based medications.

Behaviour[edit]

These are aggressive, bottomfeeding fish.

Identification[edit]

Long and slender with a large black spot near the gills and smaller black spots on the dorsal side of the body with a yellow to tan background coloration.
