I wish I had an editor like you on my site!

You're certainly an asset to your community! Good luck!

Hey catxx, Thanks for the info on my photos. I'll look into it. I was also wondering if there is a way to adjust the sizes so that they would only be full size if the user clicks on it. Mine are HUGE! :)

Thanks Catxx for the message. Fish keeping scene is excellent in Bangalore. I should say that it is much better than most other places in India, we get almost everything here. Yes many many types of natives and there are local gangs going on collection trips for them. The best example is Denisonii barb.

Going to run the bot tonight/day to put the fish back into their species categories. --Brian 20:44, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

thanks --Brian 17:28, 24 September 2008 (UTC)

Just FYI it was from: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16899

amongst others I assume. --Brian 17:36, 2 November 2008 (UTC)

Thanks!

Thanks for the welcome! I've listed my current fish at my talk. --Tryptofish 23:23, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Uploading...

Hey, how are you going about uploading these files? The upload links are suposed to redirect to the tank

Upside down catfish pic?

Hi Catxx, was just looking around the site and noticed you uploaded an additional picture to the upside down catfish page. The pic you show there is not Synodontis nigriventris. It is a syno species but looks too large and the markings are all wrong for Synodontis nigriventris. Could you look into this?

Thanks

SJones_1

Indeed, as Psipro said, we go with what the labels on the photos say to an extent. The patternation of Upside Down cats can vary. --Cat 18:14, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

What? :) --Brian 20:16, 4 March 2009 (UTC) Installed :) enjoy --Brian 20:43, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

Hey, when you update the Habitat template the site has to update every fish profile... this takes a while. You can look at Special:Statistics to see how much has to be done, the Job Queue, while its 2000 jobs it will take a while to update everything and some pages may see out of date. --Brian 23:42, 2 June 2009 (UTC)

What he said :) Let me know if you want that installed. --Brian 04:07, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Whats your e-mail? --Brian 18:15, 12 August 2009 (UTC)

Family

Hmmm, since its not a parameter in the Fish Data template already it would require re-adding the family data to every template. I could add it and we can get to it as it can, or I can re-show the 'Facts' box. --Brian 14:01, 8 June 2009 (UTC) I made the change (see Zebra Danio) and the Job Queue is updating all of the pages. I'll make sure I hit up the ones I can while I'm at work :) --Brian 15:39, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Time for a move!

Cat (and Q), I'm selling my webhosting company. And as such I will be moving all my personal sites to a new server which will cost me less. I'll be moving this site and VC over too. But... do you use VC for e-mail? As that is what is likely going to have the most issues. If you do let me know we will need to move it over to google mail. --Brian 02:42, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

What is VC Brian?
Have you thought about asking Seachem for sponsorship for AquariumWiki? They do a lot of that. I've no idea in what form their sponsorship takes. Worth an email? http://www.seachem.com/Library/Links.html

--Quatermass 07:16, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

Hm I'll contact them. Cat, the transfer will happen at some point in the next two weeks :) --Brian 13:16, 14 September 2009 (UTC)

BTW I did send Seachem a message but have not heard back from them yet. Cat, I'm working on transfering VC now. --Brian 19:03, 19 September 2009 (UTC)

Hey Cat, Your site is moved over. Can you please update your nameservers to point to ns1.cloud.psipro.com ns2.cloud.psipro.com. --Brian 20:12, 19 September 2009 (UTC)

Probably a issue with ImageMagik, I'll look into it. --Brian 16:01, 21 September 2009 (UTC)

Should work now

Uploads should work now. Same for VC. I'll fix any old uploads now. --Brian 16:02, 23 September 2009 (UTC) --- You need to update your nameservers at http://domainhelp.opensrs.net I had to move the old nameservers as part of selling my business --Brian 02:17, 27 September 2009 (UTC)

I put a request in at tucows to reset it. Check your e-mail catc####@gmail.com for something from them. --Brian 03:24, 28 September 2009 (UTC)

ImageMagick

Hey cat, I had to rebuild ImageMagick. I updated your wiki config appropriately to match the new path. Let me know if you have any problems. --Brian 00:17, 10 October 2009 (UTC) The problem is that the apache server (what serves the sites), isn't shutting down peroperly after they are used, so its using all of the memory and the server crashes. I'm working on it, sorry. --Brian 16:58, 11 October 2009 (UTC)

iPhone

I still do have a few ideas that I would like to implement, and an iPhone app is one of those. There are a few things preventing me from working on said project.

  • I'm working on my master's thesis and it takes all my time
  • I don't have an iPhone
  • I believe it costs money to develop for the iPhone... (when our ad revenue gets there we can invest in an iPhone app)

Either way I do hope to eventually do something like this, but for now this may work http://www.iphoneappindex.com/2009/06/09/wikisnail-a-mediawiki-client-for-the-iphone/ --Brian 20:59, 17 November 2009 (UTC)

I know I'm probably a little bit late for this, but have you considered Android? Jourdy288 14:41, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

I actually have an android phone, and yes I have thought about it :). Hows it going Jourdy? --Brian 16:07, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

Greetings, Brian! All is well, I've disappeared to the GP32X forums in case you're wondering. I hang out in the Open Pandora section, it's about this open source handheld computer/console. It's pretty awesome :D Glad to see you're taking good care of the wiki! Not much else, I'm something of a newb in C++ (I can't remember much lol) but I'm hoping to eventually be able to make programs all my own, I definitely think you should put together an Android app, though, this sort of thing is something that aquarists dream about! I'd go for it. Jourdy288 15:18, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

Killi fish pictures

Hey Cat. These images Image:Fundulopanchax sjostedti9827.jpg are uploaded Image:Fundulopanchax sjostedti2384.jpg under other names (they used to be the default images). Are those the ones you deleted? Otherwise I'll look around for them. --Brian 19:06, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Yeah, there weren't any other pages the old images linked to, copied everything over, deleted the ones with garbage titles and reuploaded with proper species names. --Cat 19:07, 26 November 2009 (UTC)

Thanks

You have been improving a lot of the articles that I have recently made, and have really done a good job of cleaning them up and adding pictures and everything. So I just wanted to say thanks. --Guppy 17:30, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

Spam Fighting

Hey Cat and Q,

Since you are our resident spam fighter, please stop or at least slow down :) I've installed the extension AbuseFilter and copied some of Wikipeida's useful rules. It should stop users from doing a lot of bad things and it is programmable.

How it needs to work, is q or I will need to look over the spam edits and make rules to block them if possible. As of right now I've been a bit of an ass, and required 10 edits AND waiting 10 days to post external links. Any user, annon or not, without those qualifications will be blocked from posting an edit containing new external links.

We can copy any useful rules from wikipeida from this site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:AbuseFilter and import them locally. Details on the extension can be found here: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:AbuseFilter

'the contents box looks better at the beginning of the page'

Do you really think so? I think a paragraph of text does, followed by detail TOC of what might follow. On long pages, the entire screen is just TOC, with the first section being titles "about X X X", which is really silly. IMNSHO, anyway. Huw Powell 00:15, 17 February 2011 (EST)

Personally I like some text first, I just added {{TOC_right}} and applied it to this revision or the {{TOC_left}} and applied it to this revision, what do you think? --Brian 08:30, 17 February 2011 (EST)

I like both. They both, I think, meet Cat's desire and mine. Cat? Huw Powell 22:16, 17 February 2011 (EST)

Iridescent shark

When I get mine, I will try to get a decent photograph (hard with such active fish!) and upload it, we may indeed be talking about different species. Which is why the sciencey part of this hobby is so important. Huw Powell 22:29, 17 February 2011 (EST)

Looked it up in my vintage Exotic Tropical Fishes, and, indeed, it seems I am talking about Pangasius sutchi (perhaps) - unless it has been renamed in the last 20 years. I might have to write a fish article that isn't here! Huw Powell 22:33, 17 February 2011 (EST)

Oscar for being awsome

Astronotus ocellatus1.jpg Congrats on your Oscar! --Brian 09:16, 22 March 2011 (EDT)

  • Wipes away a tear* I'd like to thank my agent, my parents, my extended family, my fish, my sofa, my tv *collapses into a heap of tears* --Cat 09:46, 22 March 2011 (EDT)

Cleanup

FYI I am working on the cleanup as well. Can you make the pages as patrolled you have un-done? There are multiple seemingly good edits trying to cover-up the spam. --Brian 08:42, 21 April 2011 (EDT)

If you view the page history you can bulk undo the changes and then ban them. --Brian 08:52, 21 April 2011 (EDT)

In the left col of the radial buttons select the last good edit (yours on 08:17, 31 March 2011) and on the right col select the top most edit (yours protecting the page). then hit the compare selected revisions button. You will get an undo button on the new page.

You can try not-undoing your page protection, but I don't know if it will stick or not. --Brian 08:59, 21 April 2011 (EDT)

done --Brian 09:03, 21 April 2011 (EDT)

You did it!

I didn't remember finishing those last four disambig pages..... you sneaky girl --Brian 17:27, 11 September 2011 (CDT)

Damn spam

Updated the abuse filter to catch those people inserting sneaky link. --Brian 06:32, 6 October 2011 (CDT)

Hows stuff going?

Having any problems or are doing good? --Brian 19:01, 18 October 2011 (CDT)

Seems to be working for at the mo! --Cat 14:05, 19 October 2011 (CDT)

Thanks

Although I've been on this website for 1 year, I created so much pages, and as you understand, most you have edited. You are the best user I've ever seen, I've never seen anyone work as hard as you do! Scincerely, peter

Congratulations

(I hope I spelled the subject right). Anyways, I congratulate you for doing so much, Because most of the pages I created, you edited. Without you, perhaps I never will be able to have a complete page, as I cannot fill in everything sometimes. peter

Hyea

Long time no talk, how have you been? --Brian 14:44, 22 May 2015 (UTC)

Glad to hear your doing well. Married life going good? My wife and I had our first child about 7months ago, but I assume you saw something about that on facebook :). As for the errors I see them every now and then too. I've had a hard time pinning down their source, I do keep tweaking settings in the back. Do you see them on VC too? --Brian 14:14, 2 June 2015 (UTC)

Alright ran the DB optimizations, and it looks like it is hanging less. Let me know if you see any improvements. --Brian 14:11, 9 June 2015 (UTC)

Done :) --Brian 02:35, 22 August 2015 (UTC)

Wiki Upgrades

Check your e-mail. I'm gonna be on the google chat if your around. Don't want to post link here :) --Brian 16:37, 17 September 2015 (UTC)

So checkout http://www.theaquariumwiki.com/index.php?title=User_talk:PsiPro&curid=4538&diff=80038&oldid=79728 one of the upgrades I'm porting directly to this version is usage. Notice I didn't upload the image that was on the wikipedia commons, I enabled a variable that lets you pull images and other media directly from the commons. Just use the file name. --Brian 16:57, 17 September 2015 (UTC)

The Deleted Templates

Hey, I think you remember me. You helped me make my first pages on this site. I really appreciate that! I don't know if you're active anymore, but if you see this, I have to ask you. What happened with all the templates for the profiles of the fish and other sea creatures. It says they were deleted, but I didn't know until I came back, because I was inactive for a while. But can you please explain to me what happened!?! I would try fix it myself but I don't know how to do that stuff nor do I know what happened. I hope it gets resolved soon. Thanks!

Missing

There's a page missing a Fishbase Cetoscarus bicolor. Could you add it? I forgot how to ages ago.

--Peter 12:32 February 5, 2018 (UTC)

Alright, it does, and I understand now! thanks so much!
