Origin[edit | edit source]

Found in the West Central Pacific Ocean on the Great Barrier Reef.

Sexing[edit | edit source]

These fish are difficult to sex visually.

Tank compatibility[edit | edit source]

Keep only one male Golden Basslet to a tank as they can be aggressive towards other males. They are generally peaceful towards other tank mates and are considered reef and invert safe. Do not keep with larger aggressive fish.

Diet[edit | edit source]

Will accept a variety of meaty foods such as finely chopped fresh or frozen marine fish, squid, mysid shrimp and vitamin-enriched brine shrimp, as well as prepared foods.

Feeding regime[edit | edit source]

Feed once or twice a day.

Environment specifics[edit | edit source]

Prefers a spacious tank with plenty of rocks and caves to hide in. Needs an SG of 1.020-1.025. It is not keen on bright lights and may hide during daytime.

Behaviour[edit | edit source]

An active little fish that is known to occasionally swim upside down. Males can be territorial.

Identification[edit | edit source]

A striking little fish that is golden yellow in colour with orange/red outlining the fins and a forked caudal fin. They also have bright blue eyes with a thick golden band running laterally through them.
